I am excited to post this outfit for one reason and one reason only: I LOVE IT!
I am not so hot on my shaggy hair (it’s been chop-chopped again, thank goodness). I don’t love my tired eyes (what can I say, I need to get more sleep!). My hand looks hilariously awkward in that last photo.
But here’s the thing, I’ve worn this outfit twice. Once four months ago as the weather was just starting to turn cold, and again last week in front of this wall. And the important thing is that every time I wear it, I love it! Do you have outfits like that? A clothing combination that just FEELS good, right, perfect? Well I hope you do. And if you DO, then those are the outfits, the pieces, the wardrobe all-stars you should reach for again and again.
Case in point– those black perfectly tailored wide-leg tux pants I’m sporting. I’m pretty sure I picked those puppies up a decade ago, and I’m not afraid to say it. Why? Because the fact that I am still wearing them is proof that they ROCK! They are timeless, they are classic, they are a wardrobe staple that you can buy once and then (with proper care), you can keep them around until they are worn and frayed, until the crotch rips beyond repair, until you experience an unfortunate bleach accident, until… whatever.
Here’s the other great thing. Those tux pants are obviously not formally classified as “everyday wear”. However, folks, you don’t have to reserve them for that once upon a time business dinner you attended back in 2007. You don’t have to save them for the off-chance that you’ll sport them on a date with your beaux or belle. Pull them out and wear them tomorrow! Dress them down, dress them up, but you can reimagine your clothing simply by choosing to see it not for what June Cleaver saw (and she definitely would only have allowed Ward to wear these babies).
You envision it in a way it has never been worn before (that sounds like an intro to Star Trek or some other space odyssey). And you will be amazed! You will increase your wardrobe options by at least 30% (if not more)! I wax on. But I’d love to know: are there any items of clothing you can reimagine?
